checkdisk
Hi all,
I was just checking out to my harddrive by using chkdsk and it says the following
(Drive name) F parameter not specified
Running chkdsk is read only mode.
Could anyone tell me is something wrong with my drive.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

At the prompt:
Type chkdsk C: /f
Press Enter.
Then reboot the system and let chkdsk run to completion.
Note the space between C: and /f

i gave the command F: chkdsk

That's an incorrect command, which is why it's not being recognised.
'Checkdisk' is a program/file stored in the root of the C:\ drive, so you have to start any command with chkdsk, to activate the program.
That why the command you used (F: chkdsk) is being flagged as an incorrect paramater.
It's what you put after chkdsk which identifies what you want it to do, and on what drive you want it to do it.
Since you want to run a check on F:\, the paramater to use (as Bev suggested) is chkdsk F: - where F: is the drive letter of the drive you want to check.
If you want checkdisk to fix any problems it finds as well, use chkdsk F: /f (/f = fix):emotion-5:

;^) Another tip to learn more about any DOS command: type the command followed by the slash mark and a question mark and you'll get a list of arguments, switches and their meanings. For example, try typing:
chkdsk /?
for a list of all available DOS commands, try typing
help
;^) Have fun...!
