ok i have a dell optilplex gx280 and i heard if you put a new power supply

in it it will die, the motherboard will short out so i am wondering if this is true or not,and would anyone know the recommendation dell might recommend.

The main question is which version do you have? This will definatly determine what size of supply (physical dimensions) will go in the system. See HERE and let us know which version you have.
