<15 mo. old Inspiron 2350 HD failing?

I have an Inspiron 2350 that I purchased last fall.  This morning, diagnostics gave me the dreaded Targeted Read Test/SMART Short Self Test failure.  How can a home computer, that is used sparingly, have a HD failure in 15 months?  I have other Dell desktops that have been running for >5 years without an issue.

From the support boards, it seems this may be a known issue with the HDs sourced by Dell.

Hard drives can fail at anytime. All computer manufacturers source their drives from the same few companies, Western Digital, Seagate, Hitachi (owned by WD), and Toshiba. Hard drives are a component that are unpredictable in terms of when they will fail. Some fail within hours of first being powered on, others seem to never die.

Since you are getting that error start backing up your files immediately and start looking to purchase a new hard drive.
