"Cannot run Unicode version of ATL.DLL on Windows" in warning X box?????

Recently I reinstalled windows 98 on Dimension XPS R. I  downloaded chipster, video and audio drivers from the Dell site.

Now, when visiting some internet sites I  get a red X warning box that says "can not run unicode version of ATL.DLL on Windows 95. Please install the correct version". What is ATL.DLL? What is the reference to 95? How do I correct this?  Thanks.

One or more of the programs you installed after the OS has corrupted the DCOM component or you have a malware that is trying to run Visual Basic Scripting in the bacground.

Installing the DCOM update may fix this with a newer version of ATL.DLL

ATL.DLL is in c:\windows\system

The other way to fix is to disable DCOM altogether.

Re: "Cannot run Unicode version of ATL.DLL on Windows" in warning X box?????

Thanks for your advice, SpeedStep. I did these:1)disconnected extension for USB Port which was recent addition. 2)downloaded new DCom 98 as suggested. Problem persists. Before I disable DCom, can you tell me what the ramifications will be? What purpose does it serve? Thanks.

Re: "Cannot run Unicode version of ATL.DLL on Windows" in warning X box?????

Problem resolved - here's how. My son copied his ATL.DLL file from his computer's system folder, attached it to an email and sent it over to me. I renamed my old atl.dll file by adding .old to it (just in case it didn't work) and then downloaded his file into my system. Went back to all the troublesome internet sites and no longer got that warning. Thanks for your valuable time and your help!
