Recently I reinstalled windows 98 on Dimension XPS R. I downloaded chipster, video and audio drivers from the Dell site.
Now, when visiting some internet sites I get a red X warning box that says "can not run unicode version of ATL.DLL on Windows 95. Please install the correct version". What is ATL.DLL? What is the reference to 95? How do I correct this? Thanks.
One or more of the programs you installed after the OS has corrupted the DCOM component or you have a malware that is trying to run Visual Basic Scripting in the bacground.
Installing the DCOM update may fix this with a newer version of ATL.DLL
ATL.DLL is in c:\windows\system
The other way to fix is to disable DCOM altogether.
Thanks for your advice, SpeedStep. I did these:1)disconnected extension for USB Port which was recent addition. 2)downloaded new DCom 98 as suggested. Problem persists. Before I disable DCom, can you tell me what the ramifications will be? What purpose does it serve? Thanks.
