"entering power save"

Hi,

Have my dimension 5150 (E510) for about 6 months now.. so far no problems* ..until today!

While working on the PC it says "entering powerr save" and the PC is starting up again .. sometimes 3 times in 5 minutes  sometimes once in half hour
It's seems that it has nothing to do with running to much programs because it also happens while running none.
Anyone has a idea?

Specs are:
2 GB
Video card x 600 Radeon 256 mb
dimension 5150 with win MCE
dell 2007 wfp monitor

* oké once tried to intstall a internal card reader.. that's a no go if it isn't a dell..

Almost sounds like either a thermal (heat) issue or a flaky power supply ( just a guess ).

If your video card is bugging out (fan -if it has one- has died, overheating etc) it might provide such a symptom as well.  You might

Start by verifying your power management settings.  Place the theme into "Always On" and see if the problem persists.

You might also boot the system into BIOS and let it remain there overnight as some means to see if it reboots on its own outside of Windows.  Not much heat generated while idle in BIOS, so - in theory - it might more point to an intermittent power supply issue.

My guess - just that - is that your video card might be leaving the station.
