system shuts down suddenly when pen drive is connected to it.

Please help me anybody,i'm facing the problem, that is, when i connect a pen drive to my pc the system shuts down suddenly and when i disconnect it from pc, it starts automatically. i tried with another pen drive again same problem is repeating. Please provide me the solution.

USB ports are present front side of the CPU

@speedStep: The OS is windows XP, and the dell model is vostro 200,  i don't know about Bios Version. what might be the problem?

What Bios Version.

What model flash Drive?

Front USB ports or rear?

DO NOT USE The front USB PORTS use the back ones.

How do you know its 1.0.16?

i restarted the system and below dell the BIOS version was present and it is 1.0.16..do you know the solution to my problem?

There is no solution forthcoming. The flash drives are not from dell.

Go into CMOS/Bios and DISABLE "wake up to S3"

They are shorting or drawing too much current.

I have an occasional problem connecting USB devices to the front panel USB ports on my home built system, that has an Antec Ninehundred case and uses a Retail Intel DP35DP motherboard.  I suspect it's the Antec front panel USB port assembly that is causing this.  As it's not very often (maybe twice at the most in the last 6 months) I haven't done anything about it.

When It happens it causes the system to reboot.  

No Events found!
