upgrade processor

Hello I have a dell xps gen 5 with an intel pent 4 670 and i955x chipset what is the best processor I can use. please help thanks

Dan,

Smithfield Pentium D 830 (3Ghz)

The XPS G5 does not support Core 2 Duo.

Pentium 4 single core, or Pentium D processors only.

Prior to installing, check that you have the latest BIOS version A04 installed.

Smithfield or Pressler Pentium D 960.  

Intel Pentium D 820 - HH80551PG0722MN / BX80551PG2800FN / BX80551PG2800FT

I would avoid the 130W parts like the plague.

I see the 3.0 Ghz parts on ebay for $10 sometimes.  BIOS SHOULD BE UPDATED BEFORE trying to change the CPU.
