You need dual display port hookup to Quadro 4000M

You cant do Display Port to DVI (Dual-Link)  with a passive adapter.

This particular Adapter is DVI-D which means you CANT do DVI-A analog VGA.  DVI-I has the extra pins.

DVI anything cannot do 4k or 5k video.

NVIDIA Geforce graphics cards have offered 10-bit per color out to a full screen Direct X surface since the Geforce 200 series GPUs.  Due to the way most applications use traditional Windows API functions to create the application UI and viewport display, this method is not used for professional applications such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Photoshop.  These programs use OpenGL 10-bit per color buffers which require an NVIDIA Quadro GPU with DisplayPort connector.  A small number of monitors support 10-bit per color with Quadro graphics cards over DVI.  For more information on NVIDIA professional line of Quadro GPUs, please visit:

http://www.nvidia.com/page/workstation.html

When using a supported Quadro card and a supported display, no special configuration is required to enable 30-bit color. The driver by default switches to 30-bit scan out when connected to a 30-bit capable supported monitor. Information on supported cards, displays, and operating systems is available at the link below.

http://www.nvidia.com/docs/IO/40049/TB-04701-001_v02_new.pdf

On Windows Vista and Windows 7, this mode automatically disables Windows Aero regardless of whether a 30-bit application is running. If Aero must be enabled (therefore reverting to 24-bit color rendering), the NVIDIA Control Panel has a "Deep Color for 3D Applications" setting that can be set to “disable." This setting is available under Manage 3D Settings using the Program Settings Tab and the Base Profile in the Gloabl Presets pull-down menu.

Hi TE_mxc,

SpeedStep is correct, you can only get 10 bit in professional apps like CS6 etc. using professional cards like the Quadro series. Like was mentioned, if you're looking at just using the monitor for gaming consumer Nvidia cards can do 10 bit in DirectX, but that is it.

I just wanted to add that another option would be the FirePro cards from AMD, here are a list of other cards that will work (unfortunately this is last years list) but should give you an idea. For the most part you'll want to make sure the card is capable of 4k at 10 bit in OpenGL (for pro apps) and not just DirectX.

Best regards,
Brad

Seems to say 4k support.

Dell has a connection diagram showing DUAL Display port 5k Video with K2200 K4200.

Thank you both for the information!  I presume the nVidia m2000 card will also work?

Hi TE_mxc,

The m2000 will be fine for 4k 10 bit (as SpeedStep stated), but it's on the lower end in performance (I want to say it compares with a 950 GTX). I just wanted you to take that into account in case you were using the card for rendering (it'll work just a bit lower tier).

SpeedStep-

On the UP3216Q is there a reason you reference the 5k setup for the gpu? I thought the 3216Q was just for 4k, and sorry if I am missing something but just wanted to confirm. I have not been on the monitor/gpu scene as much as I used to be, but am trying to get caught up. Regardless, thanks for posting all of the information.

Best regards,

Brad

5K was just a typo mistake.  Old fingers.  Thanks.

Hi TE_mxc,

Sorry for missing the reply! No worries, I just wanted to make sure we weren't missing anything. I hope the new setup/card works well for you!

SpeedStep-

Thanks again for all of the info!

Best regards,

Brad
