video problem

I have an Inspiron 3646 desktop computer and I just installed a new hdmi to dvi cable to my monitor.  Now when I start up I do not get the Dell logo screen, just a black screen and then boots up normally to the desktop screen.  Before I was using an AVG regular cable.  What happened?
