vostro 200 cpu upgrade e6550 to Q9550

Hi Folks,

i have recieved today, after a advise from the dell sales department a new intel CPU Q9550. I had running my system on a e6550, and needed a upgrade for some grafic works.. Due to the fact that their where not clear which cpu i needed, i asked dell to give me an advise. They send me a email with an offer for a Q9550, but the price was twice as much i would bought in a normal store.

I purchased the cpu in a normal store, and installed the CPU, without any succes.
when i push the power buton, the system fans are running, but he is holding the rest...
Shuting down, i have to press the on button for a long time..

Now i am wondering, what am i doing wrong.. I assume dell support knows what they are telling the customers, so the CPU should work on this board.

FOr your info some specs:

Vostro 2000 (purchaced 2007)
Power 600 OCZ 600 watt
Asus grafic card
board foxconn G33m02 (http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Motherboards/detail_overview.aspx?id=en-us0000319)
Bios: 1.16

Os their somebody wo can help me out?

thanks in advance

The FoxConn G33m02 motherboard does not support Core 2 Quad processors, only Core 2 Duo, Pentium Dual-Core and Celeron processors.

Dell sold two versions of the Foxconn G33M motherboard, the G33m02 and G33m03, that are essentially identical except for the power regulation section of the motherboard.

The G33m02 is a depopulated [cheaper] version of the G33m03 board which only has 6 voltage regulator IC's as opposed to the 11 voltage regulators on the G33m03.

It just shows the Dell's Techies lack of product information.   emoticon.Ick.title

I have an Inspiron 530 MT with the same G33m02 motherboard with a 300w PSU and would like to install a Core 2 Quad CPU, but it would cost me $150+, just to replace the motherboard, plus a new power supply.

As the 530 is 3+ years old, it's not worth the cost of the upgrades.   emoticon.Stickouttongue.title

Yep, I know that feeling only too well and last year because of it, went back to building my own systems again, using a AMD Phenom ll x4 965 Black Edition CPU and Win 7.

Re: vostro 200 cpu upgrade e6550 to Q9550

Based on what I'm reading the power consumption is the problem?

If so what about the Q9550S it's only 65w just like the Core Duo I have in their already?

If the power is the only trouble wouldn't this work out?

I need an answer before I buy it.
