vostro 220 doesnt boot up to the os
It wont start up to tthe os so i ran the diagnostic tests and it gave me this error when checking the cdrom:
error code 0148
msg: error code 2000-0148
Msg: hard/optical drive 0 - incorrect status 1a error register 0020h
sense information: 02-0401
please help i have a vostro 220 desktop running windows vista home edition and it boots to the dell splash screen and then wont boot to the os
i have no idea what any of this means please help

Error code 2000-0148, indicates the hard drive has failed and you need to replace it and reinstall windows and load the drivers.
If there's a Dell warranty in effect, contact Dell for a replacement drive. No warranty, you need to buy a SATA, 7200rpm internal hard drive.

yeah its out of warranty that was my next question is what kind to buy and do they just plug in?

Look for either a Seagate, or Western Digital SATA hard drive, check the warranty, most manufacturer's warranties are a minimum of three years.
The procedure for replacing the Vostro 220 hard drive, is HERE <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
After installing the hard drive, you will have to reinstall windows and load all the drivers and applications.
The procedure for a manual reinstall of windows, is HERE
Note the correct order of installing the drivers.
