win sock

I just had a service tech out for my DSL cable modem, he stated the system is not communicating with the modem because there is a corrupt string in my system registry having to do with win sock, he states he could fix it but do to liability he could not, that I would need to take it in. Can someone help me in the registry to remove the string by going thru regedit?

It would be helpful to know which version of Windows you are running.   If the following doesn't work, post back with that infomation. 

Try downloading and running lspfix from the following site:

http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Sorry, WinXP, I resolved the issue by using system restore, which previously would not function. I rolled back 2 months, I now have virus issues, but am hoping I can resolve those now that I can once again access the internet.
