xps420 Q9400 error message after inserting new ram
hi all,
had just purchase a Silicon Powered Ram (DDR2 800 PC2 6400, 2GB), but after inserting the ram, the system will not start.
the following error message is displayed "memory modules are detected but a memory configuration or compatibility error has occurred"
am currently have PC2 6400 800mhz Fatality ram (2x2GB) on slot 1 and 2.
had tried to remove all current RAM and just install just the Silicon Powered, but same problem persist. Have tested the ram on a dell 5100 system and it works
wondering if anyone could advice?! all help is much appreciated
thanks
david

Looking at the Crucial memory listing (what most of the techies on here recommend for non-Dell memory) this requires 1.8V memory. Is the new memory 1.8V?
Where is the configuration or compatibility error showing? On POST, or in Windows? What does the BIOS (F2 - Setup) show for the memory?

hi Fireberd,
thanks for replying, and apologize for the delay in replying.
have checked the new memory and its a 1.8v and the error message appears on the CPU Miniview. The system does not boot up hence am unable to go into Bios setting.
