3rd crash in 3.5yrs

i've got a Dell 8400 bought in Nov '04.

the system crashed showing only the blue screen around July/August 05.

as it was then still under warrantee i called Dell who sent out a technician who replaced the hard drive.

that was fine til the system crashed again August 07. oops, out of warrantee this time so i'm on my own to figure it out and fix it.

i bought 2 new h/d's intending to use both of them but the system refused to recognize the second one, so i ran with just the one.

also added more RAM then, giving me 1.5 GB.

the system did recognize the extra RAM so that worked ok.

then this month the system crashes again, so i replaced that drive with the second one i had bought before, reload windows XP and all is fine for now.

i dont want to go thru this over and over every year.

seems to me it isnt the hard drives but the system, surely there arent that many bad hard drives in my world.

the crash has been in july/august each time, winter downunder, is that relevant?

what else could be requiring me to install an empty clean h/d and reload windows XP each time to have a computer system that works?

next time i might really lose it and go berserk, argh, eeeeeeeeeek!!!!!!

See here for the Common Causes of Hard Drive Failure.

As the failures happen in the winter, could static electricity be a cause.

What is the make of the hard drives?

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer about this?

Bev.
