A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Well this message appears and i dont know what to do.

os: windows xp

technical information: *** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203 , 0x87333828 , 0xc0000102 , 0x00000000)

i dont know what to do please help

Hi,

Welcome to the Community.

The 0×00000024 error means that there are registry entries that have been corrupted on your computer.This error can be caused by many things, from viruses to registry corruption.

The best way to fix this problem is to go for a clean reinstallation of operating system with the windows cds.Data is already corrupted so dont worry much about it if you want to get back the computer.

My name is Jyotsna and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.

In regard to the issue that you have mentioned, would recommend you to try a few things to sort that out, before I tell you how to prevent it in the future:

1)      Check if any programs such as your anti-virus, third-party firewalls and so on are clashing with your operating system (check if they are not compatible). If you find any that aren’t compatible, try removing them and wait to see if the error still occurs.

2)      Open command prompt and type in chkdsk drive: /f to allow Windows to attempt correction of corrupted entries in the registry. The “f” in the command above should be replaced by the letter corresponding to the hard drive installed on your computer. This step usually works for many users who are still able to access command prompt after seeing the blue screen of death.

3)      Access your hard disk drive through Computer/My Computer. Right-click on the drive and select “Properties”. On the Tools tab, select “Check now” in the Error Checking box. Ensure both boxes are ticked on the resulting pop-up box and scan for errors. If the volume you are checking is in use, then Windows will ask you if you want to schedule a disk scan when you restart your computer. Once you agree to schedule, restart your computer and Windows will now attempt to fix any errors your operating system may be dealing with.

4)      If you are unable to access Windows at all, attempt recovery of bad sectors through your OS CD. Insert your CD and select the recovery console. Access command prompt and attempt step 2 above.

how am i supposed to use all my ssaved thing that are on my computer

Hello,

I have also been getting a similar message on system bootup. A blue screen with a message "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage. ........

Please help me in this regard. How should I repair my PC? It's a Dell Optiplex 380.
