CPU choice to upgrade Inspiron 580s

Hi, I would like to upgrade the CPU of my Inspiron 580s. What CPU does this motherboard and its latest BIOS support? I am not expecting warranty from Dell and I just want to upgrade it even though it is not officially support. Thanks in advance!

Which motherboard model? That limits your choices to older cpu's. You probably know that whatever board it has it is obsolete and upgrading the cpu or anything else on this model is not a good way to spend your money. Even the latest bios is 5 yrs old and will not have any more updates.

The following processors are supported:

Intel Core i3-540
Intel Core i5 650 (3.2GHz/4MB cache)
Intel Core i3 550 (3.2GHz/4MB cache)
Intel Pentium Dual Core G6960 (2.93GHz/3MB cache)
Intel Core i5 760 (2.8GHz/8MB cache)
Intel Core i5 750, 45nm, 95w, processor (8MB Cache, 2.66GHz)
Intel Core i5-661, (3.60 GHz/4MB cache)

i7 processors are not supported, for these you need a different motherboard.

Prior to upgrading the processor, check that the latest BIOS version is installed, as BIOS Version A06 has Enhance CPU support.
