Compatible VGA cards for Dell Optiplex 170l mini desktop

Hi all,

I had my dell for a long time now and I thought about upgrading to windows 7, but unfortunately, the Aero UI doesn't support the inbuilt graphics processor(Intel(R) Graphics 82865G) and I'm hoping to upgrade! I've heard that only low profile vga cards are compatible for my pc, and I'm a complete noob when it comes to vga cards.. oh and I only want a vga card which has like 128mb of memory! just enough to support the Aero UI! help anyone :) thanks in advance ^^

The only slots in an OPTIPLEX 170L are 32 Bit 33mhz PCI Slots.

You can buy an Optiplex with Windows 7.  That would be a better choice.

AERO does not work well with 33mhz PCI 2.2

I'm in no position to purchase a new PC, but could you recommend some graphics cards which would be compatible with my pc? thanks ^^

There is no such thing as a Low Profile Optiplex 170L.  They only came in SMT Small Mini Tower.

The PCI cards would be Geforce 8400 32 bit PCI cards.

NOT PCI-E but PCI cards.  Most places charge too much for this card.

When you can get a GX620 tower for $99 its a waste of money to buy such a card.

The PCI-E ala PCI EXPRESS cards DO NOT FIT into an Optiplex 170L because there are no PCI-E slots in the system.

Do not be fooled into thinking a cheaper card that says PCI-E will work.  It wont.
