Dell Dimension 5150 BIOS update issues

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on my Dell Dimension 5150. I currently have BIOS version A02 and I see that there is an available update to version A07. when I download the file I get an error message saying "Flash access denied. please make sure you are logged in as an Administrator." could this be an OS compatibility problem? or is it a problem with my PC? thanks!

You need to do this from a DOS-booted device, like a flash drive.

If you have a floppy drive, you can format a DOS-bootable floppy from Windows. Otherwise, I suggest the HP flash utility. (Seven Forums has a tutorial on how to do this.)

Last year, I updated a relative's 5150 with a new power supply, 1tb 7200-RPM hard drive, 128gb SSD and Windows 7. I took the opportunity to update the BIOS as well.

If you are not having problems or have not been directed by Dell Support to update, don't update the bios. The old adage still applies--if it ain't broke, don't fix it. An older computer like yours usually doesn't need a bios update if it is working fine and you have not made any hardware changes..
