I have a Dell Dimension 5150 with 0WG621 mobo,it has a Pentum 4 640,thats a 64bit processor with 2 GB ram,but can't install Windows 7 or 10 64bit,it will only install a 32bit OS,its start to load the setup then restarts the PC,and I don't know why,I have a Intel Pentium D 945 3.4 GHz processor for it,If I put this in will it only come up the error message but still boot the OS..? I have Windows 10 32bit on it at the moment, would love to be able to put Windows 10 64bit on it,any help would be appreciated..???

Only 2GB of RAM is an issue.  Upgrade to the full max of 4GB as a first step.  2GB is insufficient for Win 10 64 bit.

Not sure if the DXXX CPU's will work in that motherboard.  There are some motherboards that it will work in but not sure about ours.  On the motherboards that will accept a D9XX,  the D945t is the maximum D9XX CPU that it will accept.  Intel lists D960 but we have had users try the 960 and it will not work.

I used to have a Dimension E510, which is identical to the 5150.  I gave up on it when Win 7 came along.

The Intel Pentium D945 works with Windows 7 64 Bit and Windows 8.0 64 Bit but is below minimum system requirements for Windows 8.1 64 Bit or Windows 10 64 Bit.

Anyway the hardware is over a decade (vintage 2006) and the cost of a new Windows license is not worthwhile on such hardware:

For the price of a new Retail Windows 10 license - you could get a second hand more capable machine such as an OptiPlex 780/790/7010 with an affixed Windows 7 Pro OEM License (which you could use to clean install Windows 10 Pro).

The issue is that CMP XCHG 128 and SLAT require AT LEAST a pentium D 900 series from 915 up.

Coreinfo with * means feature supported and - means not supported.

EM64T           *       Supports 64-bit mode
NX              *       Supports no-execute page protection
PAE             *       Supports > 32-bit physical addresses
SSE2            *       Supports Streaming SIMD Extensions 2
SSE3            *       Supports Streaming SIMD Extensions 3
CX16            *       Supports CMPXCHG16B instruction
LAHF-SAHF       *       Supports LAHF/SAHF in 64-bit mode
PREFETCHW       *       Supports PREFETCHW instruction

Once you update the BIOS to the latest version there may still be an issue where you have to press F1 to continue but otherwise it works.

I know this works however there is also a chipset issue. So you may not see more than 3.25 to 3.50 gigs of ram regardless of OS and the onboard intel stealing ram which you do not get back if you add PCI-E video card.

The maximum Pentium D that can be installed is a D945.

5150/E510  only works without incident with specific motherboard

0HJ054  if you have this it will not say incompatible cpu and halt.

If you update to latest bios and you do not have HJ054 it will say incompatible cpu and press F1 to continue.

This is what a GX620 looks like with 64 bit OS. Note 8.1 pro and 10 have the same requirements for CMPXCHG 16B in 64 bit mode as well as NX and LAHF/SAHF.
