Dell Optiplex 745 to GX620 Please Help

something very crazy happened to me:emotion-3: PLEASE READ

I posted a thread saying that what parts could fit in my optiplex 745, many people helped me but there was a confusion, when i was going to buy the parts, something crazy happened,
the optiplex got the orange light, which means that it wont turn up. That happened because my ups was damaged and i needed to replace the battery in it.
Originally, i was going for a amd radeon hd 5670 or a gt 240, a core 2 duo e6700 and 3 or 4 gb of ram. To fix the issue i handed the pc to a store to fix it. the motherboard was the issue. then, a week later, I go turn on the pc, everthings ok BUT, The bios and the motherboard are of a gx 620.
It says in the bios, Dell Optiplex gx 620 bios revision a11. now i have so much issues that i cannot count LOL. the first one is that these weak pentium 4 and pentium d waste very much energy and its going to be very much for the pc to handle. it has a 305w power supply and i runned a power supply calculator and it exceeded the 305w limit sigh... why cant these pcs support core 2 duos....
the second one are the drivers. in reality this pc is a optiplex 745. but the motherboard and the bios are from a gx 620. and on top of that, when i buyed it, it haved windows 7 and it has 1gb of ram which causes it to go slooooooooooooooow. the drivers of the gx 620 are only for windows xp and as you may know windows xp drivers are only for windows xp and even if you run it with compability mode it wont work.
luckly, i have windows xp on a cd, and i certainly know that it will run faster with windows xp. i arrange some pictures for you to see it. and in the back, the pc says that is a gx 620. it has a seal that says that. maybe the person misunderstanded it. Because of the drivers, i have no sound, the video card doesnt support my monitor, 1366x768. should i install windows xp, yeah, i think so. http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine that was the calculator i used.
first i used neweggs calculator later that one. it could be that neweggs calculator uses the 130w pentium d processors. when i used the one on the link i used the pentium d 820 3.00ghz and a geforce gt 220 affordable and good and 2 sticks of ddr2 ram plus 2 80mm fans. i dont know how many fans does this thing have but, well....

You can use a Single Slot version of Radeon 6670 or 7750 with the 305W tower power supply just fine.
Dell Optiplex GX620 745 Dimension E520 Mini-Tower Heatsink & Shroud (GX003 HN985) is required for PentiumD Processors.
Dell OptiPlex GX620 MT (305W PSU)
Intel Pentium D 960 3.6GHz
GX620 (BIOS A11)
Also changing to the 960 requires a better copper heat-pipe heat-sink not just a simple processor change.
Look at the 620 FAQ that deals with the 620 TOWER in the Mr Smith Case.

Pentium D (Not all versions) up to 960 is supported with Bios A11.
Max Ram is DDR2 2 Gig modules up to 4 which means 8 Gigs with 64 bit OS and 64 bit CPU.
HOWEVER your pictures say GX520. The 520 DOES NOT HAVE 4 ram slots and DOES NOT HAVE an X16 Video Slot.
If that's the case the board was a HUGE downgrade from a 745.:emotion-3:
No idea who THEY are but THEY are not official Dell service. Dell would not do this.

Also, just curious, does it support the 2nd generation pentium d processors? the ones that have 4mb of cache and are 9xx like for example, Pentium D 925.

Hi pcuser1234,
I am sorry to hear about the issues caused due to the motherboard replacement done at a store. Optiplex GX 620 supports only Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Pentium 4 Celeron Prescott and Smithfield Cedar Mill processors.
Optiplex GX 620 has a power supply of 305 Watts. The system can support DDR 2 memory modules at 533MHz and the maximum memory supported is 4GB. The motherboard supports a single processor fan through the 5-pin connector located next to the processor. Drivers are available only for Windows XP as the Optiplex GX620 is shipped with it. You can try to update the drivers manually in Windows 7 through the Device Manager via Windows Updates. For information on how to install a driver manually, please visit the following link:

by smithfield you mean the first generation pentium d processors right?
then why does that pc have a pentium d 925 if it only supports smithfield processors?
and I Wanna know if i can upgrade the pc with a geforce gt 220 or a hd 5670 and 3 gigs of ram.the power supply would support it no
and also do pentium d processors have a performance drop in comparison with core 2 duo processors? is it very much of a diference or it isnt a big thing?

i also have all drivers but for some reason my speakers wont work i have the driver for audio and i have the speakers plugged in maybe its beacause they have fallen a bit and i need to replace them

thanks for your help. I Downgraded from windows 7 to windows xp and its going very fast even with this piece of thrash that is a pentium 4

Its not going to say GX620 in a GX745. Regardless of what the CASE says.
The 745 is totally different chipset with totally different drivers.
The BIOS from the 620 IS NOT COMPATABLE AT ALL EVER in a GX745 NOR vice versa.

Yeah, you are right, but to say it in a few words, before they replaced the motherboard it was a optiplex 745 it had the latest bios 2.6.6 and when they replaced the motherboard, they putted a gx620 board instead of the original one that was the one from a 745. it now has windows xp professional and the a11 bios. the power supply is the same 305w one as when it was a 745. Can it support a gt 220 or a hd 5670 a pentium D and 3gb of ram? I Used the extreme outvision calculator and it hitted 296w with a smithfield pentium d 820 with the hd 5670 and 273w with the nvidia gt220. I Used 3 sticks of ddr2 ram that are 3 gigabytes, 1 floppy drive, 3 fans, a regular sata hdd and the two video cards. Is it accurate or not?

i can buy the heatsink at ebay.com also is the 8600gt a good card I Saw that it only wastes 49w which is good.

Ok thanks for all your help, but... I Figured out something very crazy that will work.
As they changed the motherboard from a 745 to a gx620, I can upgrade it from a gx620 to a optiplex 755, yes it will work, and here is the proof en.community.dell.com/.../19707749.aspx I Feel so relieved I Dont have to use those useless pentium d processors. I Can even upgrade to a optiplex 760 which supports almost any 775 processor you throw at it. the gx620, optiplex 745,755 and 760 all use the same propietary power supply of 305w. If i upgrade to a 760 i will need to buy the processor with the board inmediatly cause the 760 doesnt support pentium 4 processors. the one i have is a pentium 4 530. If i upgrade to a 755 instead of 760 i will go for a core 2 duo e6850.
