Dimension 4400 will not boot diag D lit amber all others green
Hi,
I have a Dell dimension 4400 diagnostic lights are GGGY they go to that at switch on.
Have removed all PCI cards and unplugged all IDE cables no change. Video card works on other computer, removed memory and it bleeps 3 times. Tech support said faulty video card, monitor says no signal if unplug monitor no connection.
Any ideas what to do next

It could be the motherboard. Have you tried to boot to a floppy disk to see if the system will boot to something other than a hard drive? You can download a bootable DOS disk image from this link:

the display is blank I have tried a different HDD and the 4400 just goes to GGGY have tried unplugging all cables removing the battery.
Could it be the cpu or mobo?

The GGGY indicates that the system posted but did not finish booting to the OS. See if the system can boot to something other than Windows. Put in a DOS disk and see if it boots. If it boots to a DOS disk, then the problem is with the hard drive or with the OS itself.
You can see if the problem is with the hard drive by pressing Ctrl-Alt-D when the Dell BIOS logo is visible. This will run the built in hard drive diags. If the test does not pass, then the hdd needs to be replaced. If the test passes, then the OS will most likely need to be reinstalled.

Hi Steve,
Q1. When you try to boot to the DOS disk, what color are the diag lights on the back of the computer?
Q2. Is the power LED lit on the monitor? What color?
the led on the monitor is Green, if you turn the monitor off then on it shows "no signal" if you unplug the monitor cable changes to "no connection".
I have tried the monitor and video card in my PC and both work fine.
