Graphics Card Upgrade Question for Vostro 470

Hi all,

Hope you can help. I am wanting to upgrade my GeForce GT 620 for a better graphics card that supports the latest gaming titles preferably GDDR5, is the Vostro 470 capable of having a graphics card that is beyond GDDR3? Your help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

RocknRollTim

I would try a GTX1050TI.  These work well with most Dells of that vintage.

Yes should work fine.  There are older dells like the Dimension XPS 8300 from 2011 that have used a pascal based card without issue.

If you have windows 8 UEFI bios you must set secure boot OFF and CSM on with option roms so you do not have any secure boot issues.

I would update to the LATEST BIOS for your system BEFORE changing video card.  XPS8500 and Vostro 470 are one and the same afaikt. Vostro 470 XPS 8500 Motherboard LGA1155 H77 Chipset  0YJPT1

The MINI is easy to fit into the case and has been tested.  OC versions may push power supply too far.  Fittin all the way into the slot is the acutal issue for some where they say the card doesnt work at all.

Low profile is only needed for desktop and USFF systems.

RocknRollTim,

Dell has not tested any graphics card that go beyond the GDDR3  on this system.

Hi Jesse,

I feared that would be the case, looks like I will either have to get a new PC or a NVIDIA Shield. Thank you for your response.

Hi SpeedStep,

Will the graphics card you recommend in your post work in my Dell?

That's great SpeedStep, will order one soon and thank you so much for your help. Also sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Regards,

RocknRollTim

P.S. What is the difference between the Low Profile, Mini and OC editions of the graphics card? Which one do you suggest me to get? Thanks
