HELP!! Inspiron 531 Vista 32 Restore to Factory Defaults from D: Recovery Partision

I proceede to the repair selection from the F8 menu. I get to a login Screen that has a button for "Other User". I select this option and it askes for a User Name and Password. It will NOT recognize any users I have setup. I have an Administrator user and it will not accecpt that login.

Any Ideas Anyone? I do not have the system disks and I need to refornat C:.

Hi CompuTom,

Welcome to the Community.

I understand your concern and I see that you are trying to do a Pcrestore on your computer and when you are trying to login it’s not taking the account and you are not able to go to next stage of the Pcrestore.

The only option left is to do Operating system reinstallation using the CD/DVD which you have.

If you are in the US you can request disks to reinstall vista. To request a set of disks-- support.dell.com/.../backupcd_form

You might think about upgrading to windows 8 instead. The Release Preview is available for free now and the final version will be out in October. If you download the iso file and make an install disk, you will be able to format the drive after booting to the disk. You should however run the extended hard drive diagnostics first to see if the hard drive is failing.
