How to identify GX280 Motherboard model number
Is there a way to identify the model number by the numbers on the corner of a GX280 Motherboard?
For example a motherboard with CN-0U1325-?????-???-???? on the corner opposite the PCI slots,
can that be used to determine the model? If not, how can I determine which model motherboard I have?

First, I'd recommend going into your Dell account and go to Support. Then instead of drivers and downloads select Original System Configuration and enter in your service tag. This will bring up the information about your system when it originally shipped and tells you all the parts and in some cases the part numbers.
You can also grab the Optiplex Part Guide Excel worksheet from WarrantyParts Direct if you have an account and such.
Can I ask what you need the model number for? If you need a part you can give Dell your service tag and they will automatically select the proper part for you.

I'm looking at purchasing a MOBO for a spare case I have.
What I really would like is a list of MOBO models that are for the GX280's. This will help identify my options.
I have a account on Dell's Premier site have not been able to locate any info as such.

The number you reference is GX270 not GX280.
IGnore the CN- and the Zero and the next few chars are the dell part number.
Notes: PWA,PLN,GX270,DT,DELL,TSMT
Compatible Models for Dell DP/N U1325, 000U1325
The GX280 has 5 Models.
Microscopic, Itty Bitty, Tiny, Small, Medium, and Large

That says to me that there are 3 to 5 different versions at a minimum I only know 1 model Number

You are correct that number I referenced is a GX270.
Thanks for the link on the 5 models of Optiplex looking at the various System boards for
each of them it appears that there is no MOBO that is made for all models.
So I guess I need to determine which of the following; G5611, Y5638, U4100 and K5146
would fit in the GX280 SMT case I have.

DELL G5611 OPTIPLEX GX280 LOGIC BOARD is the SMT VERSION
This is based on looking at pictures of boards on places like EBAY.
The SMT is what I refer to as the DELL SKYDIVE CHASSIS.
Its the same for GX150,GX240,260,270,280. The motherboard tray, the way it mounts, the holes
etc look correct to me.
Other sites refer me to DELL OPTIPLEX GX280 MOTHERBOARD G5611, Y5638 K5146 G5611 U4100
So it may be that the boards all fit onto the same tray.
I HAVE NO IDEA FOR SURE AND IVE ONLY SEEN THE G5611 you look for the one that has an X16 slot and 3 PCI SLOTS.

Also, I was under the impression that Dell Mobo's cannot be put in alternate cases due to the tray's.

The SX270 and SX280 shoebox design is the worst dell ever made. Its not repairable or upgradeable.

U4100 Motherboard LGA775 775 P4
I would like to locate a cross reference if there's such a thing for Dell Mobo.
