Inspiron 530 upgrade graphics card/cpu questions

I'm kind of a noob to computer games, (except older flight sims)

I'd like to run at least Battlefield 2 offline games and the like or maybe battlefiled3.

Sold the xbox360... :(  now going through withdrawal...Anyway..

Here's what I got: Inspiron 530 --Foxconn G33 o2 mother, 32bit Vista, Intel 2.33 duocore (E6550),

GeForce8300GS 128MB(uggg) , 3G RAM (Probably good there..) , 300W psu

Questions:  I'm looking at Geforce GT620 (good price) ...would it help to go to 630 or anything else/better?  1G? 2G?

And would it help to install a higher cpu's?   I have to research BIOS and updating that and actually I don't even know what the 'ell that is...

Any help would be great! thanks!

The Geforce GT620 should work fine in the Inspiron 530 Mini Tower, without have to upgrade the power supply.

You could also use the Radeon HD 7750, I'm using this GPU in my 530 MT, without any issues.

Regards to the processor, the maximum processors the Foxconn G33m02 [Dell P/N ORY007] motherboard are the following:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 (2.80 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Wolfdale Core 2 Duo, E8400, 3.0GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0
Wolfdale Core 2 Duo, E8500, 3.16GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, C0
Wolfdale Core 2 Duo  E8500 (3.16 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8600, 3.33GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0

Prior to installing the processor you need to check that you have BIOS Version 1.0.15, or higher, when support for new Intel CPU's was added.

The instructions for flashing the BIOS can be found on the same page as the BIOS downloads.

The procedures for replacing the processor can be found here:

 ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/inspiron-530_owner%27s%20manual_en-us.pdf

As you intend to reuse the heatsink, plan on cleaning it's base and reapplying thermal compound to the processor.

Directions for cleaning and applying thermal compound, are HERE.

Only need a small tube of thermal compound is needed, this can be purchased from any online, or local computer store.

Hey Bev,

not too many more questions... I know I have pcie but I don't know if 1.0 or 2 or 2.1  .   I know that everything is upwards and backwards compatible tho.

How do I get into BIOS and look at Pci version?   I cant find bios in Vista... you have to use command prompt?  Now I found the BIOS vers. is 1.0.3 and I see I have to get to 1.0.15 before I upgrade CPU.   but for the graphics card I like to find out twhcich PCIe I have using BIOS

thanks!!!

To enter the System Setup [BIOS], when the blue DELL logo is displayed, you must watch for the F2
prompt to appear.   Once this F2 prompt appears, press immediately.
