Inspiron One 2305, Upgraded to WIndows 8, now video display isn't correct

I've set it to the recommended resolution (which is the max).

I tried many other settings, but the display (seems to be the correct aspect ratio) just doesn't fill the screen.

It was working fine when running Windows 7.

ATI Radeon HD 4200 Series.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Check out https://community.amd.com/thread/184967 to fix the black border issue once a Dell Inspiron 2305 with the AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4200 is upgraded to Windows 8, 8.1 or 10.  Zeroing out the 1920x1080 registry keys works like a champ!  I had this issue after upgrading to Windows 10 and I'm now back to full HD with no black border.

Hi Sreeve29,

Windows 8 hasn’t launched officially and Inspiron 2305 doesn’t support Windows 8. So you may not be able to find the drivers for Windows 8 Operating system compatible with the system hardware. However, you can try to install the updated video drivers to see if this works. Here are the steps.

  1. Click on the link http://bit.ly/PewP4K
  2. Look for ‘Catalyst Software Suite’
  3. Click on ‘Download’
  4. Save the File on the desktop
  5. Right click and choose ‘Run as Administrator’
  6. Follow the on screen instructions
  7. Restart your computer

If the above steps do not work, then update BIOS.

Note: Before updating BIOS please ensure that:
*Adaptor should be connected
*No external devices (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) should be connected.
*All other programs should be closed and documents saved

  1. Click on the link http://dell.to/Nmgtuh
  2. Click on ‘Download File’
  3. Save the file on desktop
  4. Right click and choose ‘Run as Administrator’
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the program
  6. Restart the computer

You can refer to the link for Dell Computer Support for Windows 8 Upgrade.

i have win 8 release preview running on my Zino HD 410 which has ATI 4250 graphics ... i manually installed a windows 7 driver (ver 8.970.100.3000) from 7/3/2012 ... no catalyst center install ... i pointed win 8 to the specific driver file ... i don't remember how i did it though.

Updated today, have the same issue. Tried latest catalyst drivers, didn't help. They are "preview" though...

You have to run the executable in Win7 compatibility mode.

Facing the same issue.

Installed the latest driver ( 8.781, A01 ) from the following link

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-one-2305?driverId=05G42&fileId=2731099477&osCode=WV64#OldVersion

Still 2305 display doesn't show the full screen and there is a huge black border  (unused space) around the edges of the display.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks everyone - I just upgraded my son's 2305 to Windows 8 and had the same problem - and this solved it perfectly.

After upgrade to windows 8.1 I got the same issue again. This time, the old trick didn't work.

Had to install 3rd party drivers from here: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=372799

The only problem I have now is that the screen shrinks back sometimes and I have to reset scaling in catalyst control center as described here:

Works like magic. Didn't have any problems at all.

I would even prefer to disable it...

This worked for me; www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails;fileId=2731099477&osCode=WV64#OldVersion

Right Click(compatibility mode). Just let it do it's thing. Actually running in Vista service pack 2 on mine.

Thanks

Thank you! I just installed a fresh Win 10 CU and the display had the black border around the edges. I tried forcing Win 7 compatibility mode with the AMD drivers, but that didn't work.

So I uninstalled all my installed drivers and used the default Win 10 driver then did the registry mod and it worked perfectly. Full screen 1920x1080.

Thanks!
