Is AHCI possible on XPS 8500?
I have an SSD and a traditional spinning hard drive installed in my XPS 8500. The SSD says it needs to be in AHCI mode to perform a firmware update. Is this supported? BIOS has an option for SATA mode with choices ATA and RAID, Saw another post that RAID implied AHCI, but when I chose RAID I can't boot as no RAID drives are found.
Thanks.

Hello! I would see if there is a BIOS update because when I looked at the manual for the XPS 8500, it stated under 'SATA Mode' AHCI or RAID, AHCI is default. Those modes are provided by the chipset regardless and it is possible they swapped chipsets during the life of the 8500, but I do not see why they wouldn't note that in the manual.

My error - system is a XPS 8000, not an 8500.

Ahh.. Looking at the Studio XPS 8000 manual reads that no, it does not have AHCI, just IDE, even under RAID mode.
