Optiplex 755 Processor Upgrade

I'm looking to squeeze a couple more years out of the 755 I use at my office, and I have some upgrade questions. It is a mini tower configuration with a Q6600 processor. Is there a chart that shows what processors can be used with the 0GM819 mobo? Will motherboards from any other series fit the 755 chassis?

Chart.

No other motherboards do not fit nor do they work with the ribbon cable to the front panel.

After updating to the latest bios I would say up to 45nm Q9650 for the Mini Tower.

You would have to make sure that you get PC6400 DDR2 Ram if you do that.

UPDATE THE BIOS BEFORE trying to install a newer processor.

The Dell spec for the desktop version lists the Q6600, Q9450, and Q9550 CPUs.

The Q9650 worked in my minitower bios A20.

The Crucial Kits are the exact ram I chose.

Okay, thanks!

As for the processor suggestion, is there a specific reason for the Q9550 as opposed to the Q9650 or one of the QX9xxx?

I had planned on upgrading to 8GB of PC8500 with 2 4Gb kits form Crucial.

It is the tower configuration, and my BIOS is at A20 already.

Thanks Again!

Q9650 works but I don't know about the power in a SFF or SDT.   Q9650 in SMT BIOS A20  = TOWER version does work YMMV.

In the USFF Forget it because It WILL NOT work due to the power brick being only 150W.

ALWAYS UPDATE BIOS BEFORE installing New Ram and New Processor or you will drive yourself crazy

trying to figure out which piece is broken.

PC6400 ram is required for the 1333mhz fsb CPU's

Why is DDR2 PC2-6400 RAM modules required with 1333 FSB C2D's?

Does it multifunction with DDR2 PC2-5300 RAM modules?

What is the best ram for C2D'S 1066 FSB?

Required Ram is based on Front Side Bus.

If your Front Side Bus is 800mhz then you need PC2-6400.  DDR2 PC2-3200/4200  is NOT Supported in ANY configuration.

They recommend DDR2-800 so that you will not have a CPU that has an issue with the FSB.  Keep in Mind that the VIDEO clock

minimum speed is 333 mhz and that system ram is shared with INTEL Graphics.

Motherboard is capable of clocking memory not only as DDR2-533, DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 but also as DDR2-1066 at a FSB frequency of 266MHz.

NOTE: Global Standard Products (GSP) are a subset of Dell’s relationship products that are managed for availability and synchronized

transitions on a worldwide basis. They ensure the same platform is available for purchase globally. This allows customers to

reduce the number of configurations managed on a worldwide basis, thereby reducing their costs. They also enable companies to

implement global IT standards by locking in specific product configurations worldwide. The following GSP processors identified below

will be made available to Dell customers.
