Touch Screen stopped working

I have an Inspiron 2305 all in one with touch screen functionality that all of a sudden stopped working...I spent 2 hours online with Dell tech support & they couldn't fix it - & then they told me to reset everything back to the factory installed settings.  Does anyone have a better idea?

Reinstall is a typical tech support fix (all tech supports not just Dell).  Sadly, in many cases that is what is required to fix some items with the complexity of the operating system.  

I used to manage a hardware help desk, and my techs would strive to fix something without the reinstall, and the reinstall was a last resort, but at times it was required.

Not knowing what Dell support did, can't say if there is any other chance.
