USB cord for Keyboard fix?

My usb cord for my keyboard is stripped.  Is there a way to open up the keyboard and add a new usb cord to it.   I know it can buy a new keyboard for cheap but I like to mess around with electronics and fix stuff myself.  If this is possible, can anyone let me know how to do it.  Thanks

Keyboards are in the typical PC component "throw away" category.  The only suggestion is to open it up, if you can, and then look at where the existing wires are connected and then try to wire in a new USB cord to those points.   Basically, it's not working now so you can't "break" it by trying.
