XPS 8900, Dell Wireless-N 1801, 5GHz ?

My XPS 8900 with the Dell Wireless-N 1801 adapter can't see my 5GHz network.  It only sees my 2.4GHz. The 8900 sits right next to my HP Pavilion (5+ years old) which always runs on my 5GHz. Does the Dell Wireless-N 1801 not support 5GHz (scary thought) ? Any ideas ?

I think you mean 5GHz network.

5G = 5th generation mobile technology

different card, same concept http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/network-internet-wireless/f/3324/t/19340207

If you don't find a solution at the link IEEE488 posted, try this:

  1. Open Device Manager
  2. Double click entry for wireless card
  3. Click Advanced tab
  4. Look for Preferred Band option (or similar name) and adjust setting
  5. Exit Device Manager and reboot

Do you see the 5 GHz network now?

Even tho' it call itself b/g/n, under wireless mode all you can select is b or bg.

I have tried playing with most of the "advanced" settings - no happiness.
What did Dell sell me!?    I hope they fix it or tell us how to.

Here is what I see:

What about the General and Details tab?

The frequency band, if it's capable of dual band, should be on the Advanced tab.

Have you checked the Dell support page to see if there's a more recent Win 10 driver for this WiFi card?

I just pinged my Dell tech contacts to see if they can tell us if this WiFi card is single or dual band...

RE: dell Wireless-N 1801 and 5G

I am pretty sure it is 2.4 GHz only. I do not know why you would market a PC with an I7-67xx, 16-32 Gig of wideband DDR4 memory, middle of the road Geforce, and then throw in a *** wifi card.

The machine is already repacked for return tomorrow.  I will wait for INTEL's next "tick" and then buy this I7 for less.

I will order an HP or Dell which I can configure myself.  My HP Pavilion (my first non-Dell desktop) has been trouble free for 5 years (a dated I5-650). Hopefully, it will keep humming for another 6-12 months.

The DW1801 does not support 5GHz.The DW1560 does. But the sales site today does not give you the option of choosing a specific WiFi card.

RE: XPS 8900, Dell Wireless-N 1801, 5GHz ?

Thanks Chris.

Looks like the way you can get the dual band 1560 'ac' WiFi card is to buy the XPS 8900 Special Edition
