XPS 8920 - 64GB RAM - caution

Anyone taken this system to 64GB yet?  I'm having a hard time finding 16GB DIMMs that will fit without the heat sinks touching.  I guess the designers didn't' realize that heat sinks were being added to allot of DIMMs these days.  So they just put the slots as close together as physically possible.  They should get out of the office more often and look at what's being sold in stores.

ok, no heat sinks, this should work.  Not sure why all the models with heat sinks.  Last longer?  Gamers?  Overclockers?  Still, Dell should have left room for those who "want" that style of memory.

Bought the ram I posted above.  With no heat sink on it, fits and works fine.

Although this is the configuration matrix listed in the service manual in my opinion it is incomplete. It has been reported in another thread that 48 GB works fine.

they look "sexy" for the windowed cases.

Problem is it gets in the way of lots of builds, even custom builds the tall memory fights for space with big CPU coolers.

If I want to add 2x 16gb on my Dell 8900 (currently had 2x 4gb), is the correct configuration:

16GB 4GB 16GB 4GB?

Also, is it possible to use 2400 MHz for my XPS 8900? I believe the factory installed 4gb sticks are 2133 MHz. Do I have to match the speed, or will the motherboard downclock the 2400 MHz sticks to 2133?

Thanks!
