bypass system password

Today I decided to change my rtc battery as my dell
kept losing time. After replacing the battery I powered back up and got a boot error message:
0271 check date and time settings.

The issue is that if I press either escape or delete I get a system password screen. I have never put a password on the computer, but it has been in the shop for installation of windows 98 and a tape drive.

At any rate how do I get past the password? I looked in ask Dudley but my computer is not listed.
I assume that I will still have to get inside the box and change some jumper settings.

The system is a Dimension XPS D333. Please respond to INTQRK@aol.com as I am using my daughters laptop to communicate while my system is down.

Thanks

johnsch,

If it's a Windows password, merely pressing Enter should get you logged on. It will also store a non-response in the Registry so that screen should not be displayed again.

My reply to the email address you mentioned failed, so this is what I wrote:

Oh dear, this has nothing to do with Windows, since it won't even let you boot it up.

Have you tried removing the battery, wait for about 10 minutes before putting it in? Finally, you should call your country's Dell technical support number, they should be able to help after varying you are the owner.

GOOD LUCK and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hey - thanks for your thoughts. I called customer support and had to move a jumper on the mother board to erase the password. Really simple once I was told what to do.
