e510 cant add memory
i have an e510 that only came with 256 ram. i just bought (2) 1 gig cards ( P# 1Rx8 PC2-5300U-555-12) when i install the pc will not boot. it just beeps and the monitor does not get a signal. i tried every configuration and cannot get it to boot. it is windows xp media. any help appreciated. thank you

Try reinstalling the default 256mb memory and see if the e510 boots, if it does, then it sounds like 2 x 1gb modules are not compatible.

i have done that and it does boot. i cant figure out why they are compatible as everything ive read says they should be. i guess i have to return them. thank you for the help

Try booting with just one of the new 1 gig cards at a time. Can you provide link to the exact ram you purchased

i was told by the supplier that i would have to update my BIOS. it currently has A02. i have read some bad things about doing this (possibly bricking it). does upgrading my BIOS make sense or would it still be not compatible?

You can try updating the BIOS, but I cannot find a memory fix, or enhancement listed in the e510/5150 BIOS updates.
For more info, go to Dell's Drivers & Downloads section, that's listed at the bottom of this page.
Yes, a failed, or corrupt BIOS flash can briick the motherboard.

i tried several times to update the bios and i keep getting an error and it tells me to reboot and try again. rebooted and it does the same thing. am i missing something. it there somewhere that has detailed instructions on how to do it?

i tried it several times. i even restored the pc and tried it again...keep getting the same error and wont let me flash the bios. is there any other ways to accomplish this? here is the error im getting
" an error was encountered trying to configure windows to allow flashing, please reboot and try again, if error re-occurs, please contact technical help"

via the browser. i downloaded it to my desktop and have been trying to run it from there. I'll try the DL manager now

As far as I know, there are no other procedures for flashing a Dell computer BIOS, except those listed by Dell on the BIOS download pages.
Are you trying to use either the 'Download Manager' or the 'Download Using via Browser' option?

Using the 'Browser' procedure is best and has always worked for me, the 'Download Manager' has been problematic.
