ram upgrade on precision 490

Hi, I have a Precision 490 (Xeon 5110 1,6Ghz single cpu) with 2x1GB pc2-5300 ddr2 modules installed. I tried to insert other 2 identical modules (unmounted from an identical workstation). In the bios section "memory info" I can see listed all 4 dimm inserted but "installed memory" is only 2GB and also Windows 7 x86 see 2GB. Is it possible for the bios to recognize all 4GB?

Thank you

Ok, I found the answer: bios update A08 solves the problem and let 4GB recognized.

I was using bios A06.

Good Morning

Thank you for contacting the community.

The 490 should support up to 32GB of DDR2 physical memory.

The memory modules must be identical, and also populated in slots 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 and so on (white slots 1st).

If there is a problem, either the memory or the slots could be faulty.  The best way to test this is try all modules in slot 1, 1 at a time, and also test the 2 modules from your system in the swap machine.  Also updating the bios could sort any memory issues like this where it is not installing.

Regards

Kevin
