studio XPS 8000: fan problem

The sound from the fan in my 4 year old desktop computer is making noise. I cannot see any dust. What shall I do?

Can I use my hairdryer to blow "cold" air through the lattice? Or should I use a vacuum cleaner? Do I need to update drivers?
