ECS versus Scality and ECS with existing storage integration
Hi,
I have two questions:
- is it possible to integrate a VNX storage block system in a ECS architecture in order to add Block FC protocol for example?
and
- I am facing "Scality" competitor. Do you have information or feedback about this product?
Thanks all
Chris

Thanks for your question Chris..
To my knowledge, it is not possible to integrate a VNX fibre channel block system into ECS. This is because ECS Appliance only supports IP storage as part of it's "commodity component design". ECS Appliance's block storage engine is provided by ScaleIO.
Competitive information regarding Scality can be found here
There is also some Scality news and information here

Thank Neil,
When I said "integrate a VNX", I meant Under the ViPR layer.
We can't talk about Flexiblity and sold a Black box ...

Well yes, you can integrate VNX FC block under ViPR controller, but you will need a separate ViPR Controller for ECS Appliance. In this scenario you would need 2 ViPR Controllers (one for VNX and one for ECS Appliance). My understanding is that in the future this wont be a requirement and all devices will be under one ViPR Controller.
