Big Data Analytics for Cyber Security

According to a KPMG survey, more than a zettabyte (that’s 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes) of information now circulates around the Internet. However, only a fraction of this is used to aid business decisions. Big Data analytics is set to change this. Its goal is to bring more and more data into play. Many organizations and big businesses are beginning to recognize the potential of big data and machine learning. Almost all of them are either exploring ways to put them in use or they are already using them.

Cyber security is an ever evolving field as each new technology introduces a new set of threats and vulnerabilities, making security a moving target. These threats are made worse since security is almost always an afterthought when it comes to new technologies. Considering the dynamic nature of the security domain, big data analytics can play a significant role in areas such as malware detection, intrusion detection, multi-factor authentication, and more.
