As the Backup and Recovery - NetWorker Technology Architect track is being retired at the end of March I thought it would be good to explain why we made this decision and why you should consider pursuing a certification in the replacement Backup and Recovery Solutions Technology Architect track.
As EMC acquired a number of companies including WysDM, Avamar and most recently DataDomain in the Backup and Recovery space the role of a PreSales professional focusing on EMC's Backup and Recovery products has had to expand to include these products. The Backup and Recovery Solutions Technology Architect track was introduced last year to provide formal recognition of an individual's expertise in the architecture and design of EMC backup and recovery solutions using the core EMC backup and recovery products.
The Backup and Recovery - NetWorker Implementation Engineer and Backup and Recovery - NetWorker Storage Administrator tracks are NOT being retired as they are still relevant to an individual who is implementing or administering EMC NetWorker.
Below is a brief comparison of the Backup and Recovery Technology Architect tracks.
So what does this mean for you?
If you have achieved Technology Architect (TA) Backup and Recovery – NetWorker Specialist certification, the retirement of the E20-590 exam will not affect the validity of your credential.
If you wish to achieve a Technology Architect (TA) Backup and Recovery – NetWorker Specialist certification, you should plan to take and pass the E20-590 exam prior to March 31, 2010.
If you wish to achieve the new Technology Architect (TA) Backup and Recovery Solutions Specialist certification you should take the exams shown above. Details of the supporting training and links to the practice tests are in the exam descriptions available here.
