E20-001 BASIC QUESTION

I would like to check if it is a "MUST" to take any class or course offering by emc for any exam (like i have been told by vmware) or i can just prepare my self to the exam, register and take the exam base on my knowledge without taking teh class.

Thanks

It's always difficult to answer that question as it depends on your unique circumstance, role and career aspirations.  Here's a link to a page that will provide you with more info.

Many, but not all, of our EMC Proven Professionals do begin with the E20-001 Information Storage and Management Associate level certification.  Once you access the link, check out the certification framework and you'll also find information to help you decide on your best path.

Hi there, I must say that your screen name is intriguing......

We don't require anyone to take training before taking an exam.  If you have experience or past education, you might want to start with a practice test.  Every exam has a practice test, and although it's not a direct predictor it may help you to identify areas where you may want to study more.

Also, regarding the E20-001 exam, you have a number of great options to choose from.  You certainly can take an instructor-led class, or eLearning, but we've also just published our first book titled, "Information Storage and Management."  It's not only a way to enhance either training or your experience, it's a great read!

Please let me know if there's any other way that I can help.

Thanks so much for your quick response.

So, as some one that want to achieve EMC certification what is the basic exam (entry level) you would recommend to me to take? the 001 or the 011. Or in general, what the certification framework you would recommend to start with for sys admin or sys engineer that deploying, installing and managing Clariion cx700, cx300, AX Series and also Centera systems? EMCST, EMCSA, EMCTA etc. etc. - not sure

Thanks again for your time

That and more!

But always remember, before you take any exam, review the exam objectives that are always posted on the website.  If any sound unfamiliar, or you're not sure of a particular concept, just review.

You can order the book at Wiley Press, be sure to check that it is authored by EMC to get the right one.  Also, double-check availability as it is 'hot off the presses' (new).

Best of luck, let us know how you do!

Hi,

thanks for the relevant discussion. We just put up an informative video on the Proven professional framework (Proven Tracks and Specialties). I think you will find it a useful overview of what tracks make sense for an individual, based on what Michelle described - role, job aspirations, etc. It's about 8 minutes. Add a comment to the document if you find it useful. thanks.

Hello.  You CAN take our certiification exams in any sequence (any order) that you like.  One word of caution, though, if you pass a Specialist level certification exam you will not get your credential (your certificate) until you also pass the Associate level exam.

I  hope that's clear.  Take exams in any order; but you only achieve certification in a building block fashion (Associate first, then Specialist).

Please let me know if this has been helfpul.

I just need a clarification, so you are saying that I can take any level exam as my first exam. I was under the impression that it is mandatory to take the 001 exam before I can take the higer level exams.

The Associate level course, Information Storage and Management, contains very broad coverage of the industry.  Things like Data Protection: RAID, Storage Area Networks, IP SAN, Storage Virtualization and many others.  This level of certification ensures that you're able to speak to a wide range of information storage and management topics.

The Specialist level certifications typically delve into more product, task or role-based experiences.

It's this combination that makes EMC Proven Professional certification unique.  Obtaining a Specialist certification means that you have a broad and expansive knowledge of the overall Information Storage and Management industry; and expertise in working with EMC products.

One more thing, is it possible for you to provide the exact link to the video that charles is referring to. I am unable to find that.

I'm not sure this is the exact video he was referencing, but it explains the Associate level certification, Information Storage and Management, far better than I can!
