E20-517, Symmetrix solution specialist certification
Hi Everyone,
I would like to prepare for E20-517, Storage Administrator (EMCSA) Symmetrix solution specialist certification. Can anyone guide me?
Already I have ISM Certification.

Hello again,
First, let me explain that you can take any exam that you like. All EMC Proven Professional exams are available to anyone.
Training for the exams is available based on your relationship with EMC. So, for example, when you are working for a customer and have customer access to EMC's education site, you can speak with your boss about investing in Symm Solutions training. In your situation, this might be best discussed with your new company when you join.
As long as you have customer access, you'll be able to plan your training to prepare for the exam.

Thanks, I did my ISM Certification when I was working for EMC Partner. Write now I am not working for EMC Customer or Partner. In few days I will be joining to work for EMC Customer, Before that I would like to finish Symmetrix solution specialist certification that will give added advantage to me.

Your advice is very helpful for me. As I have clear idea about Symmetrix I thought I can do the certification without taking the training on it. So that it will be very helpful for me when I join the new company.
Anyways I will plan to prepare for the exam after joining the new company.

Please do what's best; you can take the exam whenever you feel ready. Here's the link to Pearson Vue, our exam provider, if you are interested in taking the exam.

Hello michelle,
i have a quick comment here , you mentioned below that "All EMC Proven Professional exams are available to anyone", I recall customer can't take partners exam !! , i think i still have that email from education portal ! can you please double check and confirm ?

Michelle's comment is correct. Anyone can take any of the EMC Proven Prfoessional exams. The part that is limited is the training.

I would like to write E20-517, Symmetrix solution specialist certification.....Can any one tell me the eligibility for taking this.I did not do any Associate level certifications Prior....Thanks in Advance

Hello -
There are no restrictions in our program that would require you to take an Associate level exam before sitting for the E20-517.
However, Specialist level certification can only be achieved by sitting for and passing an Associate level exam (E20-001 ISM) as well as completing the Specialist level requirements.

Yes, you are welcome to take the E20-517, Symmetrix Solutions Specialist Exam for Storage Administrators. Please note, as Debi has above, that while you can take the exam, in order to earn the Specialist certification, you need to have already achieved an associate level certification, for example: Information Storage and Management v2 (E10-001).
The exam description is linked here: Symmetrix Solutions Specialist Exam for Storage Administrators, and there you can find the topics covered and the training materials that would prepared you for the exam. I also recommend reviewing the Practice exam, found here: https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-17867 before taking the exam, to ensure that you are familiar with the content.

You are. There is no such predefined criteria to be #emcproven. All you need to be sure is you have idea of the product and you have studied well before giving the exam!

HI Folks,
I would like to know if I am eligible to write the EXAM E20-517, being an UNIX Administrator on contract with a BANK that uses almost all the EMC products...and I do work with EMC's storage products as part of my work...Not sure if I am qualified as EMC's customer ...

Hello Kate,
I had completed an associate level certification in the year 2008 (storage technology foundation, which is now known as ISM). Am I still qualified for specialist level after I complete E20-517?
