How EMC changes lives.(sincere advice to young guys)

sandeep.jpgHello everyone,

                                          wishes to all !

1st of all, my intro..

Name - Sandeep Choudhary

Age - 24 (male)

Qualification - B E (electronics & telecommunication) 2008 , EMC ISM certified.

Country - India

City - new delhi

Hometown - jammu

Job - Solution design & implementation associate.

MY EMC CHAPTER.  (Exclusivly for the young guys who want get certified)

Let i start from the time when i started taking classes of EMC. During my BE classes i was highly impressed by the way the EMC team highlighted the need of acquiring professional education along with the acedamic cirrculam. We were provided with all the study material needed for clearing the exam, our classes were very well managed & we recieve regular calls from EMC people enquiring development int he classroom program.During that time EMC people also visit our campus regularly. OUr classes lasts for 3 months (probably) and after that came the time of exam .  Being a resident of jammu, which is not a developed city, there was no pearson testing centre. Again EMC came to rescue , arranged the testing centre in our campus.  Few of us were able to crack the exam & i was in the rest people camp . Secured 60% although 67% was passing criteria. I think the date was december 2007.

Then came the day of our degree completion. After coming out of the campus the tension starts to build up , what to do, where to go, shall i go for higher studies, or search jobs , ..... in between the big devil struck- RECESSION. ..... hiring ceases. There was a time when u can get a job by learning a few computer languages, but it was a histroy now. No vacancy was the most common sound. Again EMC came to rescue. I was guided by my friends to get certified, who had cleard it earlier  & were doing jobs in storage. I again took the ISM exam & cracked it this time. It was the day of december 2008 .

In the very first interview the loud and clear sound from the recurter was " since you are EMC certified, i have no doubts about your introductory knowledge of Storage technologies." I was selected bcoz of ISM certification in my hand. I got a job in a time when ther was hew & cry in the market due to recession, when people wer loosing their jobs.

Whatever i am today is just becoz of that certification. Today i am working in a typical world class technologies. otherwise what i would have been,i feel terrible thinking about that ...

This is my sincere advice to all the young people who have doubts about the advantages of this course. The knowledge that i acquired from the certification is excellent and world class. I would not hesitate to say that this is a shortcut for getting into top technology working areas. Although EMC donot promises job ( infact no one can)  but i feel that this certification can make you a distingished candidate from the crowd of millions. I studied diodes, amplifiers, frequencies, bla bla,,,,,,, for four years during my engineering which took me nowhere but this 4 months study has changed my life . Even today i have a huge support from EMC in the form of trainings & study materials of emerging technologies, which i think no other company

provides. I am lookin further to get certified in clariion too. I can feel the difference in the people's attitude when i say i am EMC certified, their eyebrows raises ....EMC is with me at each & every step........

Go for the certification, crack it & you will feel the difference yourself.....feel free for any queries regarding the ISM certification,,,,

Yes, I agree with you. But to enter in to today's market ...ISM is not only the option. This is needed along with some specialization like clariion r Business continuity...etc..

Mr. Summu..

I Want to update you that here in delhi, we 4 friends got job directly in EMC storage domain in different companies on the basis of the STF certification only. Infact this certification was the elegibility criteria for applying.. You may be right in what you are saying but we people were asked for the STF, not the higher certifications. It may depend upon the post for which you are applying & on different organizations. But we people all were selected bcoz of STF(ISM) certification itself.

thanks, and revert for further queries.

hea ,,,

well its tough to secure a job directly in big named companies lyk, hcl, infosys, wipro, etc etc as they always ask for the experience.I had seen no1 who started carrer in storage directly, initially all work on other technologies lyk, OS, Networks etc. But this is the field in which acquiring the experience is not so easy. So better to start with companies with small business turnovers. There is a magazine called channel world in which you can find such companies who work on world class technologies but for small projects. Hope you find such companies and its better to apply here bcoz such companies may not ask for the experience.

Hope its helpful....

It is tough to secure a job in a large company from the start. What you mention about getting a solid background in IT and general systems administration is spot on and needed. Yes, any cert will help because it shows your desire to learn and grow and that you understand the technology.

Also, EMC is a very good storage company and they do make nice things, but there are many other large companies that are not EMC but are full of EMC equipment. Working for EMC is not the only way to work with EMC or utilize an EMC cert. I have never worked for EMC (came close but chose not to) and in my last two positions I have still worked closely with EMC people on many projects.

It takes many years of exposure to varied storage environments and the people in them to become a recognized resource, there are no short cuts. Always take on challenges and dont be one who just keeps the plates spinning on a daily basis. Be willing to help with things you may not yet understand, and always be professional in any situation no matter the stress level, even if its in the middle of the night.

Good luck.

Wow what a great way to put it. I love the last sentence the best (because that is so true!!).

I'll second Gina's comments on this post. It's all a matter of time, effort, and eventual opportunity... but you won't be able to take full advantage of the opportunities that come along unless you put in the time and effort up front.

As for demonstrating your skills and abilities and "making a name for yourself", this is an excellent place to do just that. For anyone here who doesn't also actively participate in the Support Forums area of ECN, I would urge you to check that out as well. Even if it takes some time to build a "reputation" over there, you'll learn lots while you are at it!

That's great Sandeep. Actually certification helps in two ways. The first is that it boosts confidence by ensuring that we have specialised knowledge which distinguish us from the rest of the people. Secondly, it increases our chance of getting a job/changing a job. Thus we need to wok hard to gain mastery over a technology and then proove it with the certifications we achieve. Good luck.
