We have just completed the Managing Information Storage - Trends, Challenges, and Options 2011-2012 study. The study is based on survey of over 1,000 storage/IT managers and professionals across industries and geographies.
A growing challenge confronting storage managers and IT professionals is the need to enable emerging technologies such as virtualization and cloud computing. 22% of the professionals cited cloud as becoming an important technology to tackle.
Impact of cloud on skills : More than 55% of the storage professionals believe that cloud computing is impacting their current skill set requiring investments in developing new or expanded skills.
The study also found that only 13% of IT professionals have necessary skills to design storage for cloud environments. The number will have to increase quickly as it is anticipated that 30% of data currently in classic environments, will move to virtualized/cloud environments in next 24 months.
The study shows that organizations must evaluate the impact of virtualization and cloud coputing on their storage, server, networking, and other teams. For immediately required planning and designing skills, they need to plan and build Cloud Architects and Domain Architects.
Complete paper will be available to you on Wednesday 11th May...
