On The Right Path

I have had the chance to read some of the blogs and this may be a redundant question, but here it goes.  I am a career data center engineer in the Atlanta area.  I have also been working with EMC products for some time now and would like to move towards storage provisioning.  I work a lot with the hardware, DMX4's Claiiron's and now the new V-Max  I have  experience with SMC as well as Navisphere.  I have taken an the begining EMC class in 08 on my own, (very expensive) but I have not taken the exam.  I have also purchased the Information Storage and Management book.  I just need some guidence on how to proceed.  I have read you discussion board and I am assuming that the best route to take is to first obtain my EMCISA, then proceed forward.  Also, are there any storage groups here in the Atlanta area to attend?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tracy,

You're right, the best thing to do is get your EMCISA first if you are looking at the EMC Proven Professional certifications. How you go forward with that depends on your experience level with storage fundamentals. Have you mainly been doing storage administration or systems administration?

There is one discussion currently happening about all the ways you have available to you for studying for this exam. One of the methods is the EMC Proven Professional Starter kit - it includes a video ILT of the Information Storage and management course (a recording of the week-long course) and an exam voucher. Someone wrote a very detailed blog post about his experience with the starter kit.

I'm planning on taking this exam, and I will be blogging how I study. I'm going to see if I can do it just with the book...not sure how that will go because my background tends to lean more to the systems side of things. You're welcome to come along for that ride!

I don't know of any groups in Atlanta that are strictly storage related, I will ask around. I know they have a VMware group...would that be of any help?

Hi Gina,

I have worked mostly with storage administration.  We receive a large amount of EMC storage devices, and as such I got a chance over time to work with the devices, and the applications that come with them. I will purchase the starter kit and get right to it. You have indeed answered my questions, thanks so much for your imput.

Hi there Dikkama!

Love to help you...

"what needs to be done to become a vspecialists ?" is a HUGE question in just a few words, but can have many different answers...

Getting your EMCCA is a great first step!  We look for people that are excited about technology, want to share what they know with people and have lots of energy.

Where are you located?
