Changing Equallogic PS6100 Mgmt IP address

Hi,

Trying to change management IP Settings.

2 x EQL 6100XV

Current settings on eth4 management ports

Group Mgmt IP: 192.168.180.27 / 255.255.255.0

EQLSAN1 IP: 192.168.180.28

EQLSAN1 IP: 192.168.180.29

Change IPs to 192.168.192.197 - 199 / 255.255.252.0

I attempted to use GUI (Group Conf > Advanced > Config Mgmt Ntwk) and I get an error: "There must be at least one member network interface on the same subnet as the management address"

Tried to do it via serial CLI on a member eth4 > ipaddress 192.168.192.198 netmask 255.255.252.0 and I get same error.

Do I need to temporarily down the port before changing, am I doing it the wrong way?

Hello,

Sorry about that.  I should have seen that coming.  Well that leaves, disabling Dedicated Management Feature entirely.  Then connecting to it via the iSCSI SAN subnet, then re-enabling it on the new subnet.

 Regards,

Don

Hello,

It's a little trickier with the Mgmt IP setup.  In your case you want to start by opening up the netmask.

Set it to 255.255.0.0    That way the new IP subnet is within the range of the mask.  Now you can change them one at a time on each member.  Then go back and setup the group Management IP address.   Finally set the netmask to what you want.

 Regards,

Don

We just acquired an EQL PS6100 and I need to basically reset network settings to our datacenter.

Keeping the data intact currently.  I am having trouble changing the mgmt interface and I have seen a few of your posts but I keep getting stuck on the mgmt interface and default gateway.

I am familiar enough with the CLI and do have console access after resetting the grpadmin password

basically at the end of the day, I am trying to have:

eth 4 (mgmt) - 172.16.0.10 /255.255.255.224

eth 0 (iSCSI) - 172.16.200.15 / 255.255.255.224

default gateway - 172.16.0.1

What would be the easiest way to "start fresh" on the NIC side?  I have also disabled the other ports entirely as we won't be using them for the time being.  Just want to get a hold of the data

Thanks

Hello Joe,

I can help you with that.

The easiest way to change the Mgmt Interface is to disable it, then re-enable it with the new IP schema.

However, since it appears that you only want to get the data off this array,  once you disable it, there's no need to re-enable it at all.  The Mgmt interface is optional, if you want to manage it from off the iSCSI subnet when the SAN subnet isn't routed.

Without the Dedicated Mgmt port enabled, the Discovery address (Group IP) becomes the Mgmt IP address as well.

FYI:   It's better to start a new topic vs. reply to an old one.

 Regards,

Don
