Dell PSM 4110 Flow Control Issue

Hello,

We have a PSM 4110 Blade iSCSI (10 Gbit) storage, which is connected to 3x M620 blade servers via 2x PowerConnect M8024 switches and the flow control cannot be activated on the switch ports, which are used by the storage.

Is there anybody, who has the same storage and switch configuration and have such experience?

•Storage array firmware version: V6.0.4 (R322829)
•Switch firmware version: 5.1.0.1

Re: Dell PSM 4110 Flow Control Issue

Hi Joe,

Flow control is enabled on all the switch ports, it is active at Te1/0/1-3 (used by blade servers) but inactive at Te2/0/15-16 ports (used by the storage).

Port       Description                Duplex  Speed State   Neg Status   Link   Flow Control

---------  -------------------------  ------  -------  ----  ------ ------------

Te1/0/1                                    Full        10000              Auto           Up     Active

Te1/0/2                                    Full        10000              Auto           Up     Active

Te1/0/3                                    Full        10000              Auto           Up     Active

Te2/0/15                                  Full        10000              Auto           Up     Inactive

Te2/0/16                                  Full        10000              Auto           Up     Inactive

The configuration was made according to Dell best practices.

Re: Dell PSM 4110 Flow Control Issue

Take a look at this link first: en.community.dell.com/.../4355.configuring-dcb-with-equallogic-sans.aspx

If you are using DCB, this could be a misconfiguration on the Priority Flow control.

@Joe,

The "PC8024(f)" doesnt support DCB completly so in the EQL GroupManager you have do disable this feature. I dont know how different the "m8024" is.

Re: Betreff: Re: Dell PSM 4110 Flow Control Issue

I was indicating that per the document link, the model M8024 should have DCB disabled, and not use PFC, but use Standard Flow control.

Re: Betreff: Re: Dell PSM 4110 Flow Control Issue

You also need to disable this on the SWITCH, not the array.

8024's should have the current 5.x firmware installed and DCB disabled on all switches.  This will insure that Link Layer Flowcontrol can be enabled.

Re: Betreff: Re: Dell PSM 4110 Flow Control Issue

Hi Joe, Don,

The DCB is disabled on all switches as well as on the storage.

We have a PS 4110 external iSCSI 10 Gbit storage for testing purpose, which is working fine with the M8024 switches, the flow control is active on the Te2/0/17 switch port, which is used to connect the storage to the switch.

Port          Description                Duplex  Speed State   Neg Status   Link   Flow Control

---------      -------------------------   ----------   -----------------  -----------      ------   ------------------

Te2/0/17                                     Full        10000               Off           Up       Active

I have just upgarded the firmware of the PSM 4110 blade storage to the latest version (V6.0.5 R339152) but the situation is the same, the storage is not negotiating flow control with the M8024 switches.

I see that your original support case was esclated, and we are aware of the flow control issue with the M8024-K.  Once a solution is determined, someone will contact you.
