PS5000E hard disk firmware update?
Hi,
I'm trying to update hard disk firmware on a PS5000E but the following message is given.
Is there another way to update the firmware?
Inside the tar.gz file I see a file
kit_V7.0_DriveFw_1925749062\dfu\fwdsc\ST31000524NS.dsc
That contains a pointer to the firmware kit_V7.0_DriveFw_1925749062\dfu\fwbin\KD0A.lod
So can I do a "support exec sh" and then run an application to insert the KD0A.lod firmware into a specific drive?
It should update disk8 only (currently ST31000524NS - KD03)
I'm running group firmware V7.1.4 (R405872)

Hello Serjan,
No, there is no support for this controller platform anymore. Due to some specific chips on that controller firmware on the drives cannot be safely upgraded.

Thanks Donald,
Is it possible outside of the device to upgrade the firmware? For example when inserting the disk into a DELL T5500 workstation?

Hello,
I'm sorry but no, EQL firmware can only be upgraded inside the array.

Another Dell Engineer suggested to insert the drive into the SPARE slot of an PS6000 and update the firmware using that member. This might be a solution I'll keep you updated on what I did.

Serjan!
Did you ever tried to upgrade firmware of those PS5000 drives using the spare slot on the PS6xxx??

Re: drive. As long as that drive is a spare that *should* work. It's not something tested by Dell. If that drive is NOT a spare then it could cause a fault on the PS6000 as it will read the RAID label of the other RAIDset and believe there is a faulted RAIDset in that member.
