PS6000 eth0 will only connect at 10 or 100 Mb/s

We have two EQL PS6000 running firmware 5.1.2. Today both eth0 interfaces dropped down to 100Mb/s. I've moved the interfaces to different ports and played around with the port speeds on the switches. eth0 refuses to connect at any speed except 10 or 100Mb/s.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When you say "both eth0" did you try failing over to the other CM?   When did you upgrade to 5.1.2?

Forgot to mention that we are running 2 EQL in a group, so the eth0 ports on both EQL SANs are stuck at 10/100. I have not done a failover as this is a live environment and our next maintenance window is only at the end of Jan.

We upgraded to 5.1.2 last year.

Actually I just re-read your first message.  You did say two members.

Sounds like an environmental issue then still.   Odds that two CM fail at same time in same way is not likely.

What kind of switches are you using?

I am using 2 M6348's. I've moved ports etc with no luck. All the ports are setup exactly the same.

What's the FW on those chassis switches?   Make sure it's current.

Good day.

I'm having the same problem after upgrading form 5.07 to 5.1.2 yesterday...

both eth0 interfaces dropped down to 100Mb/s

The only way to operate at 1 Gb storage was turn off the PS6000, unplug the network cable, turn on the storage and re-connect the network cable after 1 or 2 minutes.

Now the network is connected to 1 Gb.

It seems that restarting storage with the cables connected the network link remains at 100 Mbps full duplex.

I still have the report opened with a Dell tech.

I think it's a nasty bug in the firmware.

I will let you know.

( tested with two switch cisco catalyst 3750g and a 3com 4200g, so it's not a switch problem )

I am also having the same issue, new install, first thing to do was upgrade the firmware, eth0 only connects to 100Mbps, tried shutting down, unplugged the network cable, turned back on, then connected the network cables, still detecting 100Mbps.

I am using a dedicated management network.

For anyone having this issue, please open a support case if you haven't already done so.

Logged a call with Dell, seems to be an issue with the 5.1.2 firmware. They sent me the 5.2.0 firmware which should solve the problem. Will keep you updated.

Hello,

Some customers upgrading to 5.1.2 have reported this issue.  Usually, it happens if a port is up but not cabled or enabled on the switch.

5.2.0 does not have a fix for this issue.  There are some other very important fixes in 5.2.0 so if you can upgrade to that, then do so.

There are some ways to try to work around this issue if you hit this.  You'll need to work with support in order to do so.

Regards,

The problem is that this happened while the EQL was connected to the switch. The ports were all up and functioning.

In some cases, it was because the passive CM wasn't connected, or working.  The restart for the FW upgrade occurs and fails over to the other CM and the issue occurs.  Only looking at the logs and switches can provide any real clues.  Without that I can only relate what I've seen in other cases.

I am also having this issue too with the port showing up as 100 MB.  I will try the shutdown when I have a chance tomorrow.  If not, I will contact Dell Support.

I noticed this on our other SAN as well, but that went away, presumably when I restarted it.
