Reattach EqualLogic iSCSI volumes to Windows 2012

Hi,

We use EqualLogic, Windows 2008R2, HIT and iSCSI initiator to access volumes. Now I am re-installing OS to Windows 2012. All hardware, IP addresses, volumes, host name will be the same on new OS. Changes just OS. Will it be the correct way to remap iSCSI volumes back to new OS:

1. On windows 2008 R2 take volume offline in Disk Manager console.
2. Disconnect "Discovered targets" in Windows iSCSI Initiator.
3. Take volumes offline in Dell EqualLogic Group Manager (to reset connections).
4. On new Windows 2012 install HIT 4.5 and configure (is this correct software version  for Windows 2012?)
5. Enable volumes in Dell EqualLogic Group Manager.
6. Discovery target and connect to targets.
7. Take volumes online in OS Disk Manager console.

Are these steps correct?
Are all of them required?
Is HIT 4.5 correct software for windows 2012?

thanks

Re: Connections.  are you referring to the iSCSI sessions to the array?   If so, those are dynamic.  When you shutdown they will go away.

If everything is the same, then technically yes.  You can shutdown reload and bring it back up.

Did I understand right?

1. Disconnect all from Discovered targets in Targets tab in Windows iSCSI initiator.

2. Remove all volumes from favorites.

3. Maybe also remove Target portal in Discovery tab in Windows iSCSI initiator?

The main goal is to disconnect all connections from 'Connection' tab in EqualLogic Group Manager?

And these step will do that?

No need to take volume offline in Windows Disk Management?

thanks

1.)  Logout all the volumes in the iSCSI initiator.  Remove any entries in the favorites tab there too.

2.) That should clear the iSCSI connections.  it's important to verify that too.  If so, then you don't need to put volume offline. If there are still connections, you need to track them down and get them logged out.

The rest of the steps look good.

Yes, HIT 4.5 is the correct version for Server 2012.

You can remove the discovery address as well.

You don't have to take it offline in Disk Manager.

Yes, you want to make sure there are no old connections to that volume.

If parameters (IP, host name, etc) will not change why do I need to clean connections in EqualLogic? does it uses separate SIDs for iSCSI connection?

thanks

Safety.  It's a good habit to get into.  So when moving to a new server, you do the same process to insure that you don't end up double mounting the volume.  Additionaly it makes sure that you're not mounting it twice already.

but in general it is possible just shutdown server, re-install and connect volumes using same connections?

thanks
