volume free space different from windows free space

We have a LUN created and a Windows machine connect to it via iSCSI initiator

The size of the LUN is 2TB, but the disc space is different between Windows and Volume

How do i get them align so I can claim some space?

Hello,

What version of Windows are you using?

First, this is normal, since storage has to be notified by the OS that a block is no longer in use.  There is a SCSI command that does this unmapping.   It's up to the OS to send this command on every deletion.  Some OS's like WIndows 2K8 does not support this feature.  However, if you install the Dell Host Integration Toolkit / Microsoft Edition (HIT/ME) it will add in this feature and you can run a utility to periodically do this unmap process.

You need to be running EQL FW v6.x or newer AND you can NOT be using replication.  That's either SYNC or ASYNC EQL replication.  This disables support for unmapping blocks.

If you are running a newer version of WIndows still install the HIT/ME software and use the menu option to run the reclaim/unmap operation.

 Regards,

Don
